Peru, IL – 9/5/2025 – Connecting Point Computer Center is proud to announce that Lee Thompson, Senior IT Operations Engineer, has been nominated for the Illinois Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) 9-1-1 Technician of the Year Award.
Thompson, who has partnered with the Illinois Valley Regional Dispatch (IVRD) since its inception in 2016, has become an indispensable member of the public safety community. Known for his calm demeanor, respectful communication, and unwavering reliability, he has earned the trust and gratitude of IVRD.

Throughout his career, Thompson has gone far beyond the expectations of an IT engineer:
- Critical Operations Leadership: He played a central role in IVRD’s launch in 2016, its temporary relocation during renovations, and the seamless opening of its new facility in 2022. Each transition was completed without downtime, ensuring uninterrupted service for police, fire, and EMS agencies.
- Excellence Under Pressure: On call 24/7, Thompson has resolved after-hours outages, hardware failures, and emergency repairs with speed, technical expertise, and composure. His ability to anticipate problems and design long-term solutions has saved IVRD from costly disruptions.
- Innovative Infrastructure Improvements: Most recently, he led a full redesign of IVRD’s network, integrating advanced cybersecurity measures and preparing the agency for future growth and new CAD technology—all while ensuring uninterrupted service for the communities IVRD serves.
- Community Commitment: Beyond technical responsibilities, Thompson has worked directly with field personnel to improve communication between dispatch systems and first responders in the field. He frequently volunteers his time to assist with equipment integrations, vendor coordination, and training, helping agencies operate more effectively.
Thompson’s work ethic, foresight, and dedication to public safety embody the highest standards of his profession. His efforts not only strengthen IVRD’s operations but also directly impact the safety and effectiveness of first responders across the region.
