We recently sold one of these to a customer and he complained that it did not come with a preinstalled DVD decoder. This is correct for the XP version of the laptop. The software is avilable from the HP website for free under the drivers and software downloads. The customer DOES NOT need to purchase a sperate DVD software. The software available is InterVideoWinDVD 8 SE and is preloaded on vista models.
